The gas bottle should be set up on a firm base out of the reach of children (e.g. in cupboard in tank stand). The gas bottle should never be operated lying on its side. This may damage the pressure reducer!

  1. Close the black dosage valve on the pressure reducer by turning in a clockwise direction (unless already closed). Remove the green closure cap from the gas bottle and screw the pressure reducer clockwise onto the bottle valve, tightening by hand. The pressure gauge now shows a bottle pressure of approx. 50 bar (at 20 °C). The pressure gauge for the operating pressure shows approx. 1.5 bar pressure, which may vary slightly after the dosage valve has been opened.
    a) For Easy 2 only: Completely unscrew the cap nut on the hose connector of the dosage valve and screw the enclosed magnetic valve with the special screw connection  to the thread of the hose connection.
  2. Cut through the connecting hose using scissors and plug the loose ends over the safety valves (check the direction of flow).
  3. Rinse the CO2 vario diffusion system in luke-warm tap water and attach vertically to the aquarium in a position with gentle water movement. The upper end should be at least 2 cm under the surface of the water. The spaces between the individual modules should not be blocked by plants or decorative articles. Install the CO2/pH permanent test according to the enclosed instructions.
  4. Attach the connecting hose to the hose screw connection of the pressure reducer (for Easy 2 of the magnetic valve).
  5. (For Easy 2, first connect the plug-type power supply of the magnetic valve to the power supply.) Then slowly open the black dosage valve on the pressure reducer and allow a small number of bubbles to flow through the CO2 vario diffusion system. At first the bubbles will flow sluggishly, occasionally combining to form large bubbles. The device requires a running-in time of about 24-48 hours. This time is required for a biofilm to form on the surface of the device, letting the bubbles pass through unhindered.

Product description

The JBL Easy 1 and Easy 2 CO2 SETS provide  aquatic plants with the vital nutrient, CO2,  easily and conveniently creating the ideal conditions for a luxuriant underwater garden. At the same time, by regulating the supply of CO2  the pH level can be adjusted to around 7, the range best suited to the majority of fish and plants. An easily operated precision pressure regulator with pre-set operating pressure (1 – 1.5 bar) enables precise dosages to be made. The new CO2 vario diffusion system can be adapted to fit any aquarium height using extension sets (available in specialist aquarium stores). A stock of 500 g of CO2 should last a long time, without changing the gas bottle. With the convenient disposable CO2 bottles you are independent of the refill service for re-usable bottles.
Tip: We recommend keeping a new disposable bottle in reserve, in case the CO2  should run out at the weekend.

Installation

Extension options:

Easy 1:
Night switch-off with JBL PROFLORA Magnetic Valve Art. No.: 63411 00
PROFLORA Special Connection vario Art. No.: 63577 00 is required to connect the magnetic valve to the CO2 vario Pressure Reducer.

Digital control of the pH level
Additional requirement:
Control device JBL PROFLORA pH-control Art. No.: 63415 00

Easy 2:
Digital control via the pH level, as mentioned above.

Note: When the pressure reducer is unscrewed from a pressurised bottle, a hissing noise may be heard like the noise of gas being released when a bottle of sparkling mineral water is opened.

The CO2vario Diffusion System is made from grey-coloured makrolon, preventing virtually any algae settling in the bubble channel. Cleaning can be carried out when required using clean tap water. The device can be dismantled into its individual components by simply pulling the sections apart vertically. After cleaning, the sections can be simply put back together again. The catch on each module part should be correctly positioned to create a continuous channel for the bubbles.
After operating for a longer period of time, stubborn deposits may form which cannot be removed by simply using tap water. In this case, we recommend cleaning with JBL PowerClean.

The bubble rate

The amount of CO2 required depends on the volume of water, the carbonate hardness, the pH value required and the consumption by the plants. Begin with one bubble in every other bend in the device and slowly increase the number over a period of several days as required. The pH value serves as a control value. Depending on the carbonate hardness, we recommend a pH value between 6.8 and 7.4. in a “normal” community aquarium. Further details are given in the product information sheet of the enclosed CO2 /pH Permanent Test.
Note on running Easy 2: When running in the diffusion system and adjusting the number of bubbles required, we recommend connecting the magnetic valve to a permanent power supply. Once the required number of bubbles has been attained, the magnetic valve can be connected to the lighting time clock and switched off at night, or connected to a pH control device (JBL pH control) for fully automatic operation.
